This market reports focuses on harvests of seabream, seabass and turbot in the EU, especially in Spain. We also highlight harvests, prices, markets, imports and exports.

Production

Spain

On Mercamadrid, during week 48, offers of seabass rose. Those of seabream, turbot and trout dropped. The most important variation was the drop in turbot.

On Mercabarna, supplies of aquaculture species increased by 1 ton. The most important rises were those in croaker, turbot and seabream. The most important drops were those in seabass and farmed cod.

The main suppliers of seabream were imports during week 48, accounting for over half of total supplies. The main origin of imports was Turkey. At a national level, the main origins were the provinces of Pontevedra and Guipúzcoa.

In the case of seabass, the main origin were also imports, but in this case they accounted for only 39%. The main suppliers of seabass in the country were those from Murcia with 27%, Vizcaya with 9% and Pontevedra with 8%.

The main origins of turbot in the country were La Coruña and Pontevedra with 29% each and Guipúzcoa with 15%. Imports have accounted for 14% of total volume and France was the main origin.

The main suppliers of trout were from the provinces of Pontevedra, La Coruña and Guadalajara.

Prices

Spain

On Mercabarna, prices of turbot declined due to the rise in supplies. That of croaker and seabream rose due to the higher demand. That of seabass rose due to the drop in supplies.

During week 48, average prices of seabream declined in all sizes due to a lower demand.

In the case of seabass, prices also dropped but in this case because of the rise in supplies.

Average prices of turbot have not varied in the last forty-five days.
