This report focuses on catch volumes and harvests of different species of shrimp and prawns in the EU and Argentina. It also highlights fishing bans, prices, inventories, markets, imports and exports of species detailed in the following index.

Inventories

Spain

On Mercabarna, in July, supplies of prawn and shrimp registered the most important drops in frozen shrimp HLSO, frozen shrimer prawn, frozen Tunisian shrimp, frozen prawn and fresh shrimp. The only increases were reported by frozen white prawn and frozen scarlet shrimp. Total volumen of supplies declined by 15 tonnes, compared with June.

On Mercamadrid, in July, supplies of shrimp and prawn declined in all frozen species and rose in fresh ones. The most important drops were those in frozen cooked shrimp, small prawn and frozen medium prawn. The most significant increases were those in fresh medium cooked shrimp, fresh small prawn and fresh medium prawn.

United Kingdom

In May 2017, the volumes landed at the UK ports, both by the national and the foreign fleets, declined by 8 tonnes. The main port was Kings Lynn in England, with 19 tonnes.

Denmark

Volumes of shrimp supplies on Danish markets rose by 969 tonnes in July, compared with the previous month. All auctions were carried out at the markets of Skagen and Hanstholm.

Spain

Those of Argentine prawn increased slightly; Penaeus vannamei and Penaeus monodon remained the same, according to known supplies.

On Mercabarna, in July and compared with the previous month, prices of shrimp HLSO increased, mainly due to a drop in supplies. Those of frozen shrimper prawn, frozen Tunisian shrimp and frozen prawn declined because of a lower demand. However, those of frozen white prawn and frozen scarlet shrimp declined, due to a higher demand.

On Mercamadrid, in July, prices remained stable in all species, compared with the previous month.

In May, the average price of shrimp and prawns declined by GBP 18.22/kg in the UK, due to a lower demand.

2. SOUTH AMERICA

2.1 Argentina       

Inventories

Volumes of shrimp landed in July were down 4,800 tonnes on those of the previous month; this means a drop of 17%. Rawson, Puerto Deseado and Puerto Madryn, in that order, were the main ports. Out of the volumes landed through July, more than 44,000 tonnes came from freezing shrimpers and almost 41,600 tonnes from fresh coastal vessels.
