Natural New Zealand Abalone

  (NEW ZEALAND, 6/13/2012)

New Zealand is well known for its lush, natural environment, which remains remarkably untouched by man. It is a land of abundant vegetation, snow capped mountains, clear blue skies and cool blue water - the perfect place to nurture the world’s healthiest paua (abalone).

The OceaNZ Blue paua farm is located in Bream Bay, north of Auckland. The farm boasts a deep water intake (600 metres out into the cool clean ocean waters of Bream Bay), fastidious filtration of all intake water, and a disease-free status. This allows OceaNZ Blue to deliver the cleanest, healthiest paua direct to a range of international markets.

OceaNZ Blue state of the art abalone facilities in Bream Bay

OceaNZ Blue’s hatchery is of the highest quality using pure water to spawn paua naturally in a clean, cool, environment. The company rotationally farms paua by spawning fortnightly to ensure an even supply to international markets.

OceaNZ uses vee tank technology with specialist settling processes using algae from the algae production unit. The new nursery contains 38 vee tanks and grown on for a further 3 to 4 months until they are 10mm in size. Each vee tank is stocked with 40,000 paua 2.4 times per annum.

Juvenile paua require a secure space and grow quickly when in a stress-free state. OceaNZ’s juvenile systems mimic the natural wave action of the surf zone which is where the small paua like to hide under rocks.

OceaNZ Blue supplies Paua to international markets

Once paua are 40 mm and above they are happy to sit in the open. The trays are supplied with fresh water at controlled temperatures. Paua are fed and the trays are cleaned daily. This stress-free, clean environment ensures the highest growth rates.

OceaNZ Blue has built an onsite processing facility using state of the art Cryogenic (Nitrogen) freezing technology. Paua are slowly chilled down overnight to relax them and ensure the meat is tender.

To ensure freshness, paua are frozen while still alive seconds after removal from water. This has advantages especially where the product is used in sushi and sashimi as it can be thawed and served as a fresh product.

OceaNZ Blue’s farming practices are fully sustainable. The company’s brood stock are hand-picked from the fastest growing and healthiest stock on the farm. OceaNZ Blue’s paua is sold whole live, whole frozen and canned.
