Technical visits at Offshore Mariculture Mexico

  (MEXICO, 3/1/2017)

Offshore Mariculture Mexico 2017 is a conference dedicated to the mariculture and aquaculture industry, taking place in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico between the 6th and 10th March. Hosted in conjunction with the federal and regional governments of Mexico, the conference and technical visits are a must-attend event for those invested in growing and expanding their fish farming operations to the Central American region. The conference hosts world-renowned speakers including Neil Sims, Robert Orr, Rex Ito, Daniel Benetti plus many more.

Organisers of Offshore Mariculture are committed to designing and delivering conferences that offer high-level technical seminars and on-site visits, where delegates gain insight into the developing trends, advancements and access to experts within the field. The technical visits are held over one and a half days during the conference, where delegates are invited to visit working fish farms, view the practices and techniques, and gain a greater understanding of how to develop their farming business in the region.

The technical visits will include a boat tour to the Pycmar Processing Facility and UABC Facility (University of Baja California), Pacifico Aquaculture Striped Bass, Baja Aquafarms Tuna and Oceanic Mussels and Oysters, Ocean Baja Labs Yellow Tail Hatchery and Abulones Cultivados Abalone Farm. The technical visits will run over the course of 1.5 days, allowing for a full experience of the offshore farms and processing sites.

Pycmar Processing Facility uses the most advanced technologies to process large volumes of high-value, commercial species from the main fisheries, predominantly from the Pacific region. The advanced processing technologies and deep freezing gives Pycmar the capacity to consistently delivers high quality products to the end-consumer around the world.

Pycmar is ideally located in Ensenada, Baja California, just 75 miles from San Diego and four hours from the port of Long Beach, California, benefiting from fluid connection to the rest of the world.

Ocean Baja Labs has a state-of-the-art sustainable hatchery facility located south of Ensenada on the Baja peninsula. Producing Baja yellowtail, OBL built the first commercial Baja Yellowtail RAS (Recirculating Aquaculture System) in north America, with the intended capacity to produce 2,000,000 fingerlings per year. This prime location allows them to supply to any part of north America. The technical visit with Ocean Baja Labs will take place on Friday 10th March.

A boat tour to the Pacifico Aquaculture Striped Seabass offshore facilities offers delegates insight into the farming of premium, sustainable, ocean-raised Seabass, where a commitment to preserving and protecting the environment within which the fish farms are located is paramount. The clean, clear and deep ocean waters with strong currents, make Ensenada one of the best places in the world for responsible mariculture, giving farmers the opportunity to meet global demand.

  Seabass Cages

The visit to the Abulones Cultivados Abalone Farm will provide insight into commercial operation of two culture systems, land-based juvenile production facility and ocean cage system where abalone is grown to market size. Preceding this, Duk-Hyun Yoon, General Manager, Aqua-Int. Consulting Ltd will be leading the discussion on Comparison of Abalone production cost between land based farm and cage culture in Korea.

Numerous networking opportunities are scheduled in during the conference, including the Welcome Reception, Conference Dinner and Technical Visits. Delegates will have the opportunity to try Hiramasa Yellow Tail from Baja Seas and Striped Bass from Pacifico Aquaculture during the conference dinner.

Offshore Mariculture Conference Mexico 2017 is in association with the regional and federal governments of Mexico: Instituto Nacional de Pesca, Comision Nacional de Acuacultura y Pesca and Baja California SEPESCA. The Mexican Government is pledging $50 – 70 million investment into mariculture and infrastructure. The conference is the ideal place to network with key decision makers and organisations both locally and globally to establish a presence in central America. Supported by the World Aquaculture Society, the conference has gained high level recognition and support from independent bodies.
