Ny-Fiskur Invests in Another FleXicut System
Icelandic fish producer Ny-Fiskur has announced it is investing in a second FleXicut system from Marel for its processing facility in Sandgerdi, Iceland. This is the tenth FleXicut to be sold within Iceland.
Ny-Fiskur was one of the first companies to invest in FleXicut soon after its launch in 2014. The machine has developed continuously since then, and has remained the heart of the system that improves handling, yield and productivity and now promises to raise quality even further with virtually hands-free processing all the way from pre-trim to end-of-line, including final packing while optimizing the utilization of each fillet.
FleXicut combines high precision bone detection with water-jet cutting for pinbone removal and further portioning of the fillet.
“We’re just as excited this time around,” says Thorsteinn Magnusson, Managing Director Ny-Fiskur. “We already know how the investment will improve processing speed and product quality, and we expect the new features will give us an important competitive edge.”
The automation of whitefish bone detection and removal reduces the need for skilled labor, and greatly improves overall yield and quality.
FleXicut remains at the forefront of fish processing innovations, now proving itself effective at optimizing the fillet and giving production managers more control than ever before.
Flexicut optimizes the utilization of the fillet.
As Oskar Oskarsson, Marel Sales Manager, explains, “We knew right from the start that FleXicut has a lot to offer our customers in terms of productivity, handling and yield. More recently, the real potential of the software element has come to light – operators can tell FleXicut where the value lies for them, in terms of high-value cuts, and it will use that information to decide how to cut each and every fillet. This is groundbreaking stuff.”
Ny-Fiskur specializes in the processing and sale of cod and other fresh seafood. The company processes approximately 6,000 metric tons of raw material annually and its products are mostly exported to Belgium and other European countries.
The installation of the second FleXicut line at Ny-Fiskur is scheduled to take place later this year.
