Tuna is regarded as one of the world’s most valuable commercial species.

Commited to Environmentally Responsible Fishing Practices

  (MALDIVES, 2/21/2018)
Ensis Fisheries is a major tuna processing company based in the Maldives. The company processes and exports fresh and frozen tuna to the international market. Ensis is committed to environmentally responsible fishing practices and primarily source their tuna from local one-by-one fishers (pole-and-line and handline tuna fisheries). In addition to the fresh tuna business, the company has a skipjack canned tuna plant.

The state-of-the-art fish processing plant is located within 10 minutes drive to the airport and 20 minutes journey to the main seaport giving the best logistical advantages.

Ensis is the major exporter of fresh chilled tuna from the Maldives.

Tuna is regarded as one of the world’s most valuable commercial species. Being the highly-regarded tuna supplier in Maldives, Ensis offers a large variety of tuna all year round. The company’s fresh, chilled and frozen tuna products consist  of Yellowfin G & G, Yellowfin H & G, Whole Yellowfin tuna loins, chunks, steaks, trims and belly, Saku Blocks, Whole frozen Skipjack tuna, MSC certified tuna cans and tuna pouches - and more.

Wild catch from Maldivian Seas, delivered to you with the natural freshness every time.

Ensis pride themselves on the quality of their product and have stringent practices to ensure the quality of their tuna is maintained from the point of catch, by preserving the integrity of cold chain, using their own fleet of refrigerated trucks along the supply chain, from transportation to delivery from seaport to processing factory and airport. Ensis also recognise the social contribution of one-by-one fisheries to the local Maldivian communities. To enhance these social benefits Ensis work closely with the communities to bring change for the better by sponsoring local schools and community organisations.

Ensis acknowledges the strong support by the fishermen and local communities in its business. It has modeled its business to facilitate and stimulate income generation in local communities.

Ensis Group is committed to preserving the traditional eco-friendly and socially beneficial fishing methods of the Maldives rural island communities at the same time maintaining the high quality demanded by its customers in Europe, Asia and North America. Maldivian fishermen have since the very beginning, caught tuna by pole-and-line fishing. Until the introduction of tourism in the early 1970s, fisheries was the mainstay of scattered island communities. Even today, an estimated 20,000 people, out of the Maldives population of just over 300,000, are salaried fishermen.

The company owns its own fleet of refrigerated trucks to transport the products in temperature controlled conditions.

Ensis operate its own fishing-boats, and buys fish from the majority of local boats, ensuring a continuous supply of tuna and other fish. This means around 5000 fishermen, mostly from small island communities, depend on the company for their income. The company trains fishermen to handle fish on board, and provide them with ice boxes to store the daily catch. Ensis also give them loans to upgrade and maintain their boats. In addition, it has established fish collection centres in the north of the country to stimulate local fisheries.

The company also assists the schools and community organizations with financial contributions, sponsorship and other forms of support.

Ensis has a reputation for quality products throughout all major markets.
