The Undersecretariat of Agriculture of the Government of Castilla y León has published an order establishing the regulatory basis for granting subsidies to productive investments in aquaculture and fishery and aquaculture product processing included in the Operational Program of the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund 2014-2020.
The purpose of the aid regulated in this order is to promote productive investment and the improvement of competitiveness in relation to aquaculture and fishery and aquaculture product processing in Castilla y Leon under the protection of Regulation (EU) No. 508/2014. The total budget foreseen for these measures over the programming period amounts to more than EUR 9.1 million.
With regard to support for productive investments in aquaculture, these may be used to diversify aquaculture production and farmed species; to modernize aquaculture centres, including the improvement of working conditions and the safety of employees; improvements and upgrades related to the health and welfare of animals; to improve the quality of the aquaculture product or to increase its value and to diversify the income of aquaculture enterprises through the development of complementary activities. To them, the intensity of the aid (the amount of aid expressed as a percentage of the eligible costs) can reach 50 per cent for small and medium-sized enterprises and 30 per cent for other cases.
The processing aid is limited, however, only to small and medium-sized enterprises with a subsidy intensity of 50 per cent and is intended to support investments which contribute to saving energy or reducing the impact on the environment; improving safety, hygiene, health and working conditions; promoting by-catch and ecological aquaculture product processing, as well as those that lead to new and better products, management and organization processes or systems.
