The promotion and increased share of Ecuadorian seafood products in Germany has been a major factor in the surge in sales registered to that European market, the Ecuador Secretary of State has reported.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Relations, total Ecuadorian exports to Germany increased by 35 per cent in the first quarter of 2008.
Shrimp was one of the products that saw the most growth: exports to the German market soared to USD 2.5 million between January and October 2008, compared to just USD 277,000 generated in the same period in 2007.
Another of the resources registering a marked increase was tuna: in the first ten months of 2008, total sales to Germany reached USD 43.47 million, compared to USD 31.43 million in 2007, BCE data indicates.
Germany today is the second leading trade partner for Ecuador in the European Union (EU), according to the Ecuadorian-German Chamber of Industries and Trade.
Domestic exports through October 2008 totalled USD 247.1 million, against USD 247.6 million registered from January to December of the previous year, BCE figures reveal.
