Kılıç performs second living fish shipment to Oman by air

Sea brass and sea bream breeder Kılıç Deniz reported it managed to perform the second living fish juvenile delivery to Oman, of more than 1.2 million juveniles, by air. 

As a way to maintain its dominant position in middle eastern markets, the firm performed exports of 6 million living fish juvenile in total to Saudi Arabia, Dominic, America and Oman.

The Turkish firm produces 65.000 tons of sea bream and sea bass a year and exports 70 per cent of that production.

“Fish juvenile were taken to İzmir Adnan Menderes Airport from land hatchery in Milas. Here all tanks were taken one by one and carried to 4’ PMP palettes in order to load the same to the plane. Then, they were loaded on the plane with a transportation capacity of 100 tons, which was sent for us from Saudi airways. After 5-hour flight, the products arrived at Oman, Muscat Airport. We arrived Qriat port following 3 hours of travel in the Desert and the whole travel took 40 hours in total,” explained the firm’s Deputy Chief Executive, Deniz Ürünleri.

The executive further emphasized that Turkey has left Greece behind in terms of fish production and that his firm, which is the largest sea brass and sea bream producer in Europe, provides approximately 50 per cent of juveniles of both species produced in Turkey.

For his part, Sinan Kızıltan, the firm’s Deputy Chief Executive, explained that the interest, experienced in live fish in Gulf countries in particular prompted them to send juveniles by air, as before they did it only by sea.

“We export fish juvenile to Tunisia, Oman, Dominic and Saudi Arabia. Currently we retain 30 per cent of Tunisian market. Finally, we performed exportation of juvenile sea bream worth USD 500,000 regarding culture fishing to start for the first time in Oman. The fact that it is the second alive fish delivery, performed in Turkey by air in such a big size makes it a significant part of this exportation,” Kiziltan concluded.
