Swedish fishing company Torönland Fiskeri, headquartered in Fiskebäck, near Gothenburg, has ordered the shipyard Karstensens Skibsværft the construction of a pair of 49.90 metre pelagic vessels whose delivery is expected by late 2019.
The two trawlers that the company has been operating so far, Torön and Torland, were built in the year 2000 and were sold to a Russian Far East company based in Sakhalin, which will use them for fishing around the Kuril Islands, FiskerForum reported.
The new vessels will have 2999kW main engines plus a pair of 600kW auxiliaries each, and twin 600kW cooling systems.
Catches of brisling in the Baltic and sandeel and sprat in the North Sea will be landed for landed to FF in Skagen, Denmark, for fishmeal production.
Meanwhile, the landings of herring and mackerel from the North Sea and Skagerak are to be landed for Skagerak Pelagic in Skagen.
