SIMA Austral, Integrated System for Aquaculture Management, is a project funded by the Strategic Investment Fund (FIE) of the Ministry of Economy, Development and Tourism and implemented by SERNAPESCA in conjunction with CSIRO Chile. This project seeks to transform and enhance the national aquaculture sector through the implementation of an integrated environmental and sanitary management system, based on an eco-systemic approach.
SIMA Austral started with an exploration phase to identify the project’s scoping in its own context. The results and recommendations of this phase draw up a proposal for the start up or implementation, which extends from 2017 to 2018. The work carried out by the CSIRO Chile – SERNAPESCA team includes the analysis of field technical missions, meetings and workshops with the application of qualitative models executed with different actors of the production chain. Its work also includes a detailed mapping of the infrastructure available in the industry as well as in the public sector.
