BlueNalu is introducing the concept of "Eating Blue".

BlueNalu, a Pioneer in “Cellular Aquaculture,” Announces Launch

  (UNITED STATES, 6/19/2018)

BlueNalu, a pioneer in the field of “cellular aquaculture,” formally announced the launch of its business, at the annual conference of the International Consortium on Applied Bioeconomy Research (ICABR), held at the World Bank in Washington, DC.

Lou Cooperhouse, President & CEO of BlueNalu, chaired a panel at the ICABR conference on “Disruptive Innovations in the Food Value Chain” and indicated: “BlueNalu’s mission is to be the global leader in cellular aquaculture, providing consumers with great tasting, healthy, safe, and trusted seafood products, that support the sustainability and diversity of our oceans.”

 Lou Cooperhouse.

He added, “Consumers worldwide have become increasingly aware of the challenges that exist in our fishing and seafood industry. BlueNalu intends to disrupt the current industry practice, in which fish are farmed or wild-caught. Instead, we plan to produce real seafood products directly from fish cells, in a way that is healthy for people, humane for animals, and sustainable for our planet.”

BlueNalu was founded by Chris Somogyi, Chairman; Chris Dammann, PhD, CTO; and Lou Cooperhouse, with initial funding by New Crop Capital. The Company has established its operations in San Diego, CA.

Chris Kerr.

“We are thrilled by the level of expertise of the BlueNalu team, in the diversified fields of cell biology, tissue engineering, intellectual property, food innovation, technology commercialization, and consumer marketing,” indicated Chris Kerr, Chief Investment Officer at New Crop Capital.

“The mission of BlueNalu is totally aligned with our investment strategy, and consistent with consumer demands for products that replace foods derived from conventional animal agriculture,” he added.

About BlueNalu

BlueNalu aim is to disrupt the current industry practice, in which fish are farmed or wild-caught in our oceans and seas, and instead will produce real seafood products directly from fish cells in a way that is healthy for people, humane for animals, and sustainable for our planet.

BlueNalu aims to be a pioneer in “cellular aquaculture” in which living cells are isolated from fish tissue, placed into culture media for proliferation, and then assembled into great-tasting fresh and frozen seafood products. BlueNalu is committed to accomplishing this process without any genetic manipulation.

BlueNalu is performing proprietary research in its own facilities, and partnering with universities and other research institutes in order to accomplish its long-term research objectives.

The company is also forming strategic partnerships with leading global food processors and marketers, in areas of R&D, Technology Commercialization, Operations, Marketing and Sales, that will enable them to create value-added food products and distribute these to retail and foodservice markets throughout the globe.
