The Ministry of Production, Foreign Trade, Investment and Fisheries (MPCEIP) has established new closed seasons for penaeid shrimp (titi shrimp and prawn) for the 2019 season, in order to protect these resources during their breeding and recruitment periods

The measure was adopted following the technical criteria of the National Fisheries Institute on the high genetic variability of both species.

As these crustaceans present pulses of greater reproductive activity from January 1 to February 15, the multipurpose fleet and the artisanal fleet dedicated to their capture must paralyze their operations for 46 days. For its part, the industrial and artisanal titi shrimp fleet must comply with the ordering measure from January 15 and until March 15 (60 days), to contribute in the same way to the sustainability of the species.

During these periods, no fleet, be it artisanal or industrial, will be able to unload the banned resource. Those who violate this provision will be subject to the penalties and penalties imposed in the current legal regulations.
