Inside these facilities were found approximately 40 tonnes of giant squid, which were immediately transferred to the municipal dump of both cities with the help of backhoes and dumpers for their use.
Also, four rustic kitchens were found that had an approximate capacity of 2 tonnes, which were also unused to prevent them from being used again for this type of illegal activity.
This collaborative work involved 24 personnel from the General Directorate of Supervision, Inspection and Sanction of the Ministry of Production, 43 members of the National Police of Peru, 15 SUNAT personnel and 3 members from the Municipality of Paita. It also had the presence of the prosecutor in environmental matters of Piura and the support of stevedores.
From PRODUCE, it was emphasized that the construction, installation or operation of fish processing plants without authorization or corresponding operating license is prohibited, as indicated in paragraph 3.3 of Article 3 of the D.LEG. 1393, which regulates the interdiction of illegal fishing activities.
