Stolt Sea Farm (SSF) is building two new farms with state-of-the-art technology for sole farming: one in Cervo, Spain, and another one in Tocha, Portugal. The company informed that these facilities will incorporate a second phase, whose construction will begin once each unit starts production.
In addition, SSF is carrying out a new project in Anglet, France, to remodel and expand the current farm, in which the company has been operating since 2009. The projected expansion of the Icelandic farm will also help further boost growth.

The company expects these relevant projects to increase their total production capacity from the current 850 tonnes to 2,800 tonnes by the year 2023. SSF also intends to increase its sole production to match that of turbot at present (approximately 5,400 tonnes).
SSF emphasizes that its firm commitment to technology and innovation in the production of sole, together with its experience in R&D, will allow it to carry out production in locations closer to its main consumer markets, which will reduce time to market and will further enhance the sustainability of its operations.
For turbot production, the company currently operates nine farms in three countries, with a total capacity of 5,400 tonnes.
The company has reinforced its focus in recent years with a clear focus on the market, expanding its customer base to new geographical areas. It has also extended its product offerings to include King TurbotTM, an outstanding range with value-added products.
SSF explains that the growth in demand will require the expansion of its current locations and future investments in new locations. For this, it has started negotiations in Spain, Portugal, other countries in Europe, Africa and America.
"We believe that there is great potential for the company to double its size over the next 15 years, since market demand for both turbot and sole is expected to remain strong," says Jordi Trias, president of Stolt Sea Farm." This is a key moment for everyone at SSF and we are really pleased to be preparing for the next growth phase."
SSF also owns a caviar business in California, Sterling CaviarTM, which produces 400 tonnes of sturgeon and 12 tonnes of caviar per year. The plans for this business are focused on developing a commercial platform together with strictly selected partners.
