The Ministry of the Marine Affairs of Galicia will subsidize up to 50 percent of the improvements made by small and medium-sized companies that process fish products and aquaculture and that promote environmental sustainability.

This was pointed out by the councilor Rosa Quitana in Rábade, during the visit of the seafood processing company Conxelugo, an example of this type of SMEs.

She also recalled that the Xunta allocates close to EUR 13 million to the call for 2018 of these grants, co-financed with the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF). In this regard, she stressed that the deadline for submitting applications is now open.

According to Quintana, these contributions are intended to support investments made by SMEs that contribute to saving energy or reducing the impact on the environment. Also those actions that improve safety, hygiene, health and working conditions and investments that result in new and better products, processes and management systems and organization, among other aspects.

She also recalled that the 2016 and 2017 calls for this aid order benefited around 80 SMEs of seafood processing valued at more than EUR 12 million.

Among the projects subsidized there were some related to equipment for the improvement of transformation processes, with innovation in the field of new and better processes, with the improvement in the treatment of waste and energy savings.

Conxelugo is an SME located in the industrial area of Rábade that is dedicated to the manufacture, processing and transformation of products from fishing and aquaculture. It is also engaged in the wholesale trade of these products as well as their distribution.
