French omega-3 company Polaris has just bought the Quebec-based Ocean Nutrasciences firm.
Through the purchase, the 15 year expert in nutritional lipids expects to value innovative marine active ingredients – Ocean Nutrasciences’ shellfish, algae and fish extacts exempt from organic solvents -- for its key sectors: nutraceutics, food and cosmetics.
Nutrasciences specialises in the scientific valuation of marine biomasses into raw materials intended for the nutraceutics sector, developing, manufacturing, valuing (clinical studies) and marketing shellfish, algae and fish exempt from organic solvents.
Its robust knowhow in the development of biochemical processes and high-tech equipments allow for operations with optimal volume of strictly controlled fresh raw materials thanks to the firm’s location in the maritime region of Bas-St-Laurent, Nutrition Horizon reports.
Polaris via the acquisition secures the distribution and marketing of the range of products managed by Nutrasciences.
The Canadian company extracts elements from Northern shrimp hydrolysates, which focus on lowering the risk factors linked with different kinds of cardiovascular diseases. The products are antioxidant and anti-inflammatory complexes high in astaxanthine, amino acids and omega-3 (EPA and DHA) polyunsaturated fatty acids in the form of triglycerides and phospholipids.
Polaris teams have been developing and introducing several innovations to enhance the quality, stability and formulation of marine based omega-3 fatty acids, as well as other oils with rich nutritional value to the market since 1994. The ingredients Polaris focuses on are founded on clinical studies and are relevant to a variety of targets, such as the nutrition of pregnant women and ocular health.
Since 1998, Polaris has been working together with the world leader of omega-3 marine oils - the Norwegian firm EPAX.
Polaris touts itself as a company that works with marine active ingredients with high added value and abides by a politics of respect for marine resources, as supported by its Friend of the Sea (FOS) certification. Polaris has also created a patented ‘Qualitysilver’ process that stabilises polyunsaturated oils, both marine and vegetable.
