In August, 33,553 tonnes of shrimp (Pleoticus muelleri) were unloaded in Argentine ports, 918 tonnes less than in July.

According to the data of the Undersecretary of Fisheries, until September 4, the landings of this crustacean amount to a total of 145,383 tonnes.

Argentinean shrimp fishing areas

In comparison with the figures corresponding to the first eight months of 2018, a drop in landings of 8.9% is recorded. However, it should be noted that the fishing season in national waters this year began a month later, due to a delay in the shrimp maturation process.

From January 1 to September 4 of this year, the freezer fleet unloaded 70,179 tonnes of shrimp; coastal vessels, 39,057 tonnes; fresh fish vessels, 30,032 tonnes and bay/ estuary vessels, 6,113 tonnes.

Puerto Madryn (Chubut) received most of the landings, 51,457 tonnes, followed by Rawson (Chubut), with 41,666 tonnes, and Puerto Deseado (Santa Cruz) with 17,494 tonnes. Meanwhile, 7,666 tonnes of shrimp were unloaded at the port of Mar del Plata (Buenos Aires), and 7,214 tonnes in Comodoro Rivadavia and 7,220 tonnes in Caleta Paula (Santa Cruz).
