On March 12, the premiere of 'The Town born from the Sea', a documentary that shows the transformation of Lüderitz, a small town between the desert and the sea in the South of Namibia, took place at the Academy of Arts and Cinematographic Sciences of Madrid.
The town has become a place of opportunities, where people and the development of their community are priorities. With the arrival of Grupo Nueva Pescanova 30 years ago, the life of this town has been reactivated and now it offers work, education and opportunities to those who decide to grow in it.
"The Town that was born from the Sea" outlines the progress of Lüderitz, a small town between the desert and the sea in southern Namibia, which has been reborn thanks to the boost of the fishing industry after the arrival of Nueva Pescanova Group almost 30 years ago.
Based on characters and real stories, the main theme of the documentary is Nelago Kwedhi, the first Namibian woman to have gained the title of ship captain. The documentary begins in her small village in northern Namibia and continues with a journey through the desert, following the call of the sea to Lüderitz, where Nelago has found a better future.
This documentary is an example of Grupo Nueva Pescanova's commitment to the communities in which it is present, acting ethically, maintaining its trust and creating value. Since its arrival in Lüderitz in 1990, Pescanova has promoted the development of the fishing industry, which has meant the reactivation of the flow of people to the town, practically abandoned until then.
Currently, the Group has two subsidiaries in Namibia, Novanam and Lalandii, through which it employs more than 2,000 people, offers scholarships for the children of its employees and has built homes, nurseries and playgrounds. In addition, it has created the first fish store to bring the consumption of seafood to the population and is committed to the training of its workers, giving them opportunities for professional growth in an area that had no future, promoting the socio-economic development of the community.
