The prospecting and subsequent opening of national waters, produced last June 12, caused that during this last month 13,473.8 tonnes reached port, a considerable volume taking into account the history of the fishery.
Overall, the 71,000 tonnes caught by the fleet are some points below the 2018 record, although in the analysis it is necessary to consider case by case that the coastal season in Rawson was reduced by trade union conflicts. Furthermore, the national jurisdiction was opened this year a month later due to the maturational delay of the species. On the recommendation of the INIDEP
, the authorities decided to postpone the start of operations while waiting for better commercial sizes.
As for the distribution by fleets, the coastal vessels caught 32,505.2 tonnes; the freezer trawlers, 26,939.1 tonnes and the fresh fish vessels, 6,214.2 tonnes. For their part, the bay/inlet vessels caught 6,103,7 tonnes.
Also, the distribution by ports shows the presence of seafood in almost all terminals, a phenomenon that has been repeated in recent years: in the first place was the port of Rawson with 39,650.5 tonnes, second was Puerto Madryn with 14,069.7 tonnes. These were followed by Puerto Deseado: 5,983 tonnes; Mar del Plata: 5,448.4 tonnes; Caleta Paula: 3,163.2 tonnes; Comodoro Rivadavia: 918.2 tonnes; San Antonio Oeste: 208.8 tonnes; San Antonio Este: 35.2 tonnes and Other Ports with 2,285.3 tonnes.
Naturally, the months of greatest activity are ahead. The evolution of the season will mark the final balance towards the months of October / November.
