Pontoon catches fire in Mowi farming center

On the morning of Saturday, January 25, a fire affected the machine room of the feeding pontoon of the Islote Abel farming center belonging to Mowi, located in Hualaihué, in the region of Los Lagos, Chile.
The Regional Director of the National Emergency Office of the Ministry of Interior (Onemi) said that the seven people who were on the pontoon were evacuated.
"Firefighters from Hornopirén, Carabineros de Hornopirén, the Maritime Authority worked and supported the Second Puerto Montt Fire Company - of hazardous materials - because there is a nine thousand liter (oil) pond on the pontoon," he added.
Due to the presence of fuel, the action of personnel of the Navy, the Fire Department of Hualaihué, the patrol boat of Puerto Montt, ships of other companies, personnel of Mowi and local neighbors, who managed to quickly control the fire, were activated.
A boat is kept next to the pontoon for monitoring until the fuel extraction task is carried out.
Through a statement, Mowi informed that the people "who were developing work in the farming center at the time of the incident are in perfect health, not having suffered any injury, thanks to the correct action of our staff that at all times followed the contingency plans established for these situations. "
Likewise, they assured that there is no risk of fish escape and fuel spillage.
The company began an investigation to determine the causes of the incident.
