The ministry informed that from November 6 to 18, the average size of the anchovies caught was 14 centimeters, a quite positive figure that shows the proper management that PRODUCE has been giving the resource for several years. Likewise, the Institute of the Sea of Peru (IMARPE) reported that a speciment of 17.5 cm was captured.

It should be remembered that the minimum catch size of the anchovy is 12 centimeters.

According to IMARPE reports, in Piura and La Libertad the percentage of juvenile capture was 0%. Meanwhile, in Ancash (Chimbote) it did not exceed 0.02% and in the Lima region the maximum was recorded in Chancay, with only 1.64%.

"This information allows us to gather that the second anchovy fishing season will be successful and will ensure a sustainable fishery for the benefit of the sector and the country," concluded.

Científic name: Engraulis ringens | Common name spanish: Anchoveta | English: Anchovy | FAO name: Anchoveta peruana

The maximum total catch quota allowed for this season is 2.78 million tons.
