The failure of the strike by the Union of United Maritime Workers (SOMU) becomes more noticeable before the departure of ships in all ports. Those who stay in rada is due to bad weather in the coming days. In Madryn they try to stop trucks with fuel since the sailors want to go out to work.

On the fourth day of the general strike that the SOMU imposed on the fishing fleet, there continued to be movement of vessels in the main ports of the country. Compliance with the strike is almost nil, with few exceptions, and this was verified with the departure of more ships that complete their tasks of disembarking raw materials and refueling in port.

In the Patagonia, the fresh boats that are on the shrimp plan to shelter from the bad weather storm that is forecast for the next days in the region, and therefore, boats are observed in the Puerto Madryn roadstead without leaving the gulf after leaving from the pier.

The sailors of the fresqueros do not oppose the slogan of the labor demands that arise in the conflict, but they clearly warn that they do not want to lose any tide in the middle of the shrimp season in national waters, and this has been demonstrated with the normal departure of los colorados to fishing area.

The workers also recall that in previous conflicts involving the fresqueros, they never had the accompaniment of the sailors of the freezers, who now ask them for solidarity and that they do not go fishing.

Last-ditch effort

One measure that clearly shows the resounding failure of the strike is the SOMU leadership's attempt to block the entry of trucks with fuel to the Almirante Storni dock so that they do not supply the fishing boats and so the boats do not leave.

From the local leadership they called their members to "stand guard on the dock" waiting for the entrance of a fuel truck to prevent their entry. “We stopped them, those of the Truckers Union came and sent them back. We need to do that for the strike to work, ”a local SOMU leader explained to his affiliates through WhatsApp audios, from where he was trying to organize a picket in the port, explicitly acknowledging that the strike had no effect on top of the ships.

Rights restricted

The United Maritime Workers Union decreed a general strike, and by leaking water because most of the sailors continued to fish normally, they called another union to curtail their own members' freedom of work. A managerial conduct that is being observed and questioned by maritime workers who want to exercise their right to free work.
