Last 10th of July, General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China suspended Frozen Shrimp imports to three Ecuatorian companies, after detecting Covid19 on the walls of a container (one positive) and in the external packages (3 positives).

These unfortunate headlines may have a very negative impact on the seafood industry.
For this reason, CONXEMAR wants to remind that, both the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the Spanish Agency for Food Safety and Nutricion ( Aesan) as well as other world reference Institutions such as the National Fisheries Institute (NFI) have stated that, to date, there is no evidence that the virus is transmitted through food or food packaging.
“The coronavirus can´t multiply in food, they need an animal or human host to be able to multiply”, says WHO.
We therefore appeal to the responsibility of the media when it comes to this type of information, especially in the actual times, when companies are suffering serious economic problems due to the impact of Covid19 and even their survival is being threatened.
