Vietnamese pangasius imports grow

As of the first half of July 2019, the total value of pangasius exports to Belgium market reached USD 12.9 million, up 34.3% over the same period last year.
Belgium is the 4th largest market of Vietnamese pangasius in the EU region. Although compared to some potential markets of Vietnam pangasius in Asia such as Hong Kong or Malaysia, the value of exporting pangasius to Belgium is only half that, in the first six months, fish exports to this market were quite stable.

Currently, Vietnam is the largest source of white meat products for Belgium through two main ports, Antwerpen and Zeebrugge. So far, the majority of exports of pangasius products to this market are frozen pangasius (HS 030462) with an average export price of USD 1.9 - 4.93 / kg. In particular, Pangasius products cut frozen segment size 90-140g average export price from USD 1.85-2 / kg. In addition to frozen pangasius products, Vietnam also exports processed pangasius products (HS 1604) to this market, especially the pangasius, frozen shrimp (HS 16042099) with price The average export is from 6.5-6.7 USD / kg.
In the first half of this year, there are about five Vietnamese pangasius exporting enterprises participating in exporting to Belgium market, which are concentrated in Dong Thap, Can Tho, An Giang and Tien Giang.

According to the latest ITC statistics, in the first four four months of 2019, Vietnam was the largest white meat market for Belgium, accounting for 25-37% of the total import of white meat of this country. In addition to importing pangasius from Vietnam, Belgium also imported other white meat products, tilapia from China and imported some frozen or chilled cod products from the Netherlands, Germany, Denmark and France.
Belgium imports of white meat fish in the first four months of this year also increased by 9.8% compared to the same period last year, in which the group of frozen pangasius (HS 030462) increased strongly, more than 105% compared to the same period last year. Imports of frozen pangasius products (HS 030324) also increased more than 16% compared to the same period in 2018.
It can be said that in the first half of this year, Belgium was a relatively stable export market for Vietnamese pangasius, with a quite good import price compared to regional markets. In the coming time, exporting pangasius to this market can hold higher growth.
