The Federal Fisheries Council (CFP) ordered the closure of the shrimp fishery (Pleoticus muelleri) in a subarea located between parallels 45 ° and 45 ° 40 ’South and meridians 62 ° and 63 ° West.

In addition, the federal agency ordered the use of selectivity devices to work in Subzone B6, located between parallels 42 ° 30 'and 43 ° South and meridians 61 ° 30' and 63 ° West, and sectors 2 and 3, between parallels 43 ° and 44 ° South and meridians 61 ° and 62 ° 30 'West.

This decision is due to the fact that an INIDEP report indicates that in recent weeks the average hake/shrimp ratio reached 0.18, exceeding 0.15 in Subzone B6, Sector 2 and Sector 3, and 0.30 in Subzone A3.

The members of the CFP also unanimously agreed to request the INIDEP to develop a proposal for a prospecting plan for the area between 43 ° and 44 ° South and 63 ° and 63 ° 30 ’West, for four days and for a maximum of ten vessels.

This decision responds to a request from the Association of Coastal Fishing Vessels, which asked that the possibility of expanding the area allowed for shrimp fishing in the hake closure area be analyzed. It should be noted that the fleet associated with this organization operates at maximum distance of 100 nautical miles from the coast.

The INIDEP advisory report contains information reported by observers on board fishing vessels, about daily catches, production and sizes of shrimp per fleet stratum, between July 13 and August 11.

The report details that during the period analyzed, the fishing fleet operated throughout the area enabled for commercial shrimp fishing. The best yields were obtained between parallels 43 ° and 44 ° S, and decreased spatially to the south.

For the entire area enabled, commercial categories L2 and L1 accounted for 85% of total production.

Until 08/11/19 the hake bycatch accumulated since the beginning of the season was estimated at 20,932 tonnes, a volume similar to that obtained in 2018.

According to statistics from the Undersecretary of Fisheries, from January to August 7, shrimp landings in Argentine ports reached 117,773.1 tonnes, compared to 119,362.8 tonnes recorded in the first seven months of last year.
