The conversion of the unloading facility at one of the world's largest fishmeal factories is now completely finished. TripleNine A/S and the Port of Thyborøn have joined forces on a new unloading facility at the port of Thyborøn.

NOK 75 million (U$D 8,442,787) has been invested in the project, which will both secure the future of the reception facility and support the industrial fishermen with fast unloading, flexibility and optimal service.

In the last 5 years, TripleNine A/S has carried out a thorough modernization of the factory itself in Thyborøn, where NOK 125 million (U$D 14,071,312) has already been invested. Now it is the unloading facilities, which have undergone a major rebuild of both quay facilities and unloading facilities.

A total of 75 million Danish kroner has been invested in this construction project, and the costs are distributed more or less equally. TripleNine has invested NOK 35 million in the unloading facilities, while the Port of Thyborøn has invested NOK 40 million in the new quay facility.

Faster unloading

The investment includes a completely new unloading plant with two parallel drainage plants that together will be able to receive as much as 400 tonnes of fish per hour. In comparison, the factory previously had an unloading capacity of 150 tonnes per hour. It is possible for the industrial fishermen themselves to pump the fish ashore with a self-unloading function.

At the same time, the old unloading piers at Thyborøn Harbor have been removed and replaced by a 290 meter new quay facility where the new unloading facilities have been established. It provides better entry conditions, since you no longer need to maneuver in and out between the unloading piers. The water depth at the new quays is 9 meters, but they are prepared for 10 meters as future protection. The Port of Thyborøn is currently working on the environmental approvals to increase the water depth in the Thyborøn Canal to 10 meters during 2020 and no later than 2021.

Increased flexibility

The new facilities make it as easy as possible to refill consumables while the vessel is in port. Delivery of water to the fishing vessel's cooling tanks can take place during unloading, the same applies to bunkering and supply of electricity. In addition, the new quays mean that it is even possible to carry out maintenance or repair of the vessel from the local maritime service companies, during unloading.

A complete solution that also includes a new facility for bunkering and water supply. The new unloading facility at TripleNine is a major investment. Therefore, it has been important for the Port of Thyborøn to look at the construction project as a complete solution. Also in the oil industry, the vessels have become larger and require better entry conditions. It has therefore been obvious to include bunkering and sailing in oil deliveries in the construction project.

130 meter long quay

The Port of Thyborøn facilitates the larger vessels in the industry by constructing a completely new 130 meter long quay for tankers and industrial fishermen. The new quay will ensure that the tankers do not stand in the way of industrial fishing vessels at the unloading quay facility, but also expand the space that the industrial fishing vessels will be able to berth at when there are no oil deliveries on the way to Thyborøn.

The supply company Lemvig Vand og Spildevand is also investing in the project and is contributing brand new water supply pipes that can deliver really high capacity of 160 m³ / h fresh water at the unloading facility.

Production has run non-stop

The industrial fishermen have been able to bring fish ashore in Thyborøn throughout the construction period. It has been an important element in the project and has required good preparation. We are all very happy that this has been fully successful and we are pleased that the conversion has been completed and that the industrial fishermen can now benefit from the new facilities.

It can be mentioned that TripleNine A/S in Thyborøn is one of the world's largest fishmeal oil factories and produces and sells fishmeal oil of the highest quality, from raw materials supplied by local and foreign fishermen. TripleNine A / S is part of the TripleNine Group, which is headquartered in Esbjerg and has production in Denmark, Norway and Chile.
