Oficial data of frozen bluefin tuna imports: Prices and markets

The average price in Japan Customs of frozen bluefin (Thunnus maccoyii, Thunnus thynnus and Thunnus orientalis) (HS 030345010, HS 030345020 and 030346000) in July was JPY 1,397/kg, down 15% on that of June and down 1% on that of the July 2018. In the first seven months, the price average was JPY 1,466/kg, down 6% on that of the same period in 2018.

Markets

During the month analysed, 754 tonnes of frozen bluefin were imported, worth almost JPY 1,053 million, down 10% in volume and 11% in value than in the previous month.

In July Japan received 741 tonnes of southern bluefin (Thunnus maccoyii) of Australian origin, at an average price of JPY 1,383 / kg

In the first seven months of the year imports reached 1,952 tonnes and JPY 2,862 million.

In the January-July period Australia sent 869 tonnes of frozen bluefin to Japan, worth JPY 1,233 million, followed by Korea (487 t) and Taiwan (287 t).
